The Patek Philippe Calatrava was introduced in 1932, during a pivotal period for the maison. Inspired by the clean, minimalist principles of the Bauhaus movement, it established the round dress watch as one of Patek Philippe’s defining forms.

The Calatrava became the ultimate expression of understated elegance: slim, round cases, beautifully balanced dials and finely finished hand-wound movements. Over the decades, the collection evolved through countless references and variations, but its core philosophy remained unchanged.

Named after the Calatrava Cross — the emblem of Patek Philippe — the Calatrava remains one of the most enduring designs in haute horlogerie.

This 18k yellow-gold ref. 2598 is very much representative of Patek’s mid-century Calatrava philosophy: restrained, beautifully proportioned and focused on the essentials. The round case, relatively short lugs and clean dial give it that unmistakable 1950s Patek elegance.

The case is in nice condition and features a small winding crown and snap-back case back. The Opaline Dial with raised enamel signature and a small seconds register at 6 o’clock remains in stunning condition.

The watch has been fitted with one of our Bulang & Sons leather straps and buckles, while the hand-wound Calibre 10-200 has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.

The ref. 2598 isn’t one of those Patek references famous for a revolutionary complication. Its appeal is more subtle.

It represents Patek Philippe at its purest: a beautifully proportioned gold case, a clean dial, a manually wound movement and an understated elegance that has aged remarkably well.

For the vintage Patek collector, the 2598 sits nicely in that sweet spot where the watch is historically interesting yet still retains the discreet character of a genuine mid-century dress watch.

In short: the ref. 2598 is classic 1950s Patek Philippe — elegant, beautifully made and wonderfully understated.
