The Rolex Submariner ref. 5513 was introduced in 1962 and went on to become one of the longest-running and most recognisable Submariner references ever made. Produced for more than two decades, it became the classic no-date Submariner, evolving through numerous dial variations, including gilt, matte and Maxi dials.

Unlike the earlier ref. 5512, the 5513 was not chronometer-certified, which helped position it as the simpler and more accessible Submariner. Over the years, Rolex made continuous small changes to the dial, hands, case and movement, creating a huge variety of collectible examples.

Today, the 5513 is one of the true vintage Rolex icons — simple, rugged and endlessly collectible.

At hand is a particularly nice example, offered as a period set. The serif dial features a lovely yellow patina on both the hands and hour plots, giving the watch a wonderfully warm vintage appearance.

The watch comes fitted with a folded Oyster bracelet, ref. 7836, with 280 end links and a clasp stamped 2/72. The black Submariner bezel insert has retained its deep, unfaded colour, beautifully complementing the original-looking case, which has a strong overall presence. The lume pip is Luminova, while the rest of the package is all about that wonderful vintage charm.

And then there is the paperwork and packaging. Included are the outer cardboard Rolex box, the rarer coffin-style inner box, a 1973 calendar, the small punched warranty paper and the original plastic Rolex paper holder.

A lovely 5513 with the kind of complete period accessories that collectors appreciate. We love these sets where the little details tell as much of the story as the watch itself.

A proper vintage Submariner, nicely put together and ready for its next collector.
